Double Bass Lullaby

Why are Lullabies Important?

  • Lullabies, especially when sung by a caregiver, can be a key part of helping little ones to regulate and relax

  • Using lullabies consistently can help to cue sleepiness for babies

What is Unique about this Lullaby Recording?

  • There are a couple of musical qualities that were carefully chosen to promote regulation

    • Tempo: The tempo is a consistent 60 beats per minute, which was chosen to reflect a resting heart rate

    • Texture: The double bass has a rich resonance and grounding qualities.

    • Key: All of the melodies are in the same key, D Major, which helps them flow between each other and avoids potentially jarring key changes

    • Drones: There are double bass drones, overtones, and a consistent, simple guitar accompaniment that makes these lullabies feel predictable and safe

      • Fun fact: There are 6 different notes played on the double bass during the interludes between melodies, but if you’re not carefully listening for them, you’ll probably only hear one, maybe two!

How Can I Use this Lullaby?

  • We provide a download link instead of streaming options, that way you can always have it with you, and never have to worry about advertisements

  • You could use the recording as part of your naptime/bedtime routine to help cue sleepiness. Even better if you choose to sing along to some/all of the songs

  • You could use the recording as background noise while your child is sleeping if they have difficulty staying asleep

  • It is very important to be aware of risks related to the nature of this recording as well:

    • If you are using a very high quality speaker, your little one will hear more overtones as well as lower, more complex of sounds

    • While these overtones may be just fine for some babies, these sounds could also be overstimulating to other infants, and actually have the opposite effect, especially if the volume is too loud. For this reason, please consider your speaker and volume with care
